I decided to create a dedicated post for the ongoing tweaks to my Scout II.
October 9th – 2025

As you can see, I have some leaks that I am currently looking to fix. I have a significant oil leak, and it appears to be coming from the pan. I can see that on the drinker’s side of the pan, there is oil that comes out. I parked it over a cardboard box for about 4 hours, and a few ounces were on the box. I am hoping that the Oil Pan, Transmission Pan, and the Gas leak (which occurs when I fill it to the brim) are all just a gasket issue and not something more major. I could be looking at the front gasket, which will be a significant expense. I will update this afternoon.
Update:(10/09/2025)
I talked to Marvin this morning at D&M Auto Repair. He said there is still a slight leak after running it and leaving it overnight in the shop. They did address the fuel leak, which turned out to be a loose/disconnected hose on the top. The transmission pan was also finger-tight, which I don’t understand because there was a new seal and pan put on the tranny about 2 months ago. Either way, they torqued that down, and it looks like we got that taken care of for the moment. They haven’t looked at the reverse light issue or the fuel pressure yet, but are supposed to address those today.
More Updates(10/10/2025)

Marvin and David worked on the issues and addressed most of them. The transmission pan had some bolts that were “finger tight,” which means I was getting some leaks around the edges, of course. They torqued them down for me. The A/C was loose on the low side and leaking all the freon out. David tightened it and refilled the freon, and bam. Cold as ice. It turned out that during the process of body work or some sort of work….there was a screw driven through a fuel hose. Guess what? Yes, it caused a leak, and I think that’s what’s been happening when you fill the tank to the brim. When they had it on the rack, they checked the reverse sensor in the transmission. It is showing power coming in and going out when in reverse, but my reverse lights are still not working. I plan on pulling out the wiring diagram to check that out “soon”. It is part of the backup camera project, so maybe it will be “sooner” rather than “later”. The oil leak seems to be staved off for the moment as well. Two things. The installed headers had bolts that were slightly too long on the back side, closest to the firewall. That means they were not fully tight because they bottomed out. David put shorter bolts in and tightened them. Also, the oil pan was not tight on the drinker’s side. I plan to clean everything up underneath and park it over some cardboard to see if things are still leaking. Hopefully, we got it for now.
