Aftermarket Basics to Know for Scout II applications
- Rims
- Minimum of 15โ Rim โ Maybe larger depending on interference of rim design and type of brakes, especially aftermarket brake conversions)
- 5 x 5.5″ Bolt Pattern
- Minimum 4.20โ center bore diameter (for front locking hubs)
- Tires
- Many large tires can “fit” with various lifts, but this does not mean they are usable. It comes down to style and how you plan to use the truck. For instance, if you plan to use your truck offroad, you may want a smaller tire that allows for more articulation without jamming into the body.
- Bump Stops
- Their single job is to stop the tires and axles from hitting the frame and body. These limit the up travel of the suspension.
- Consider that even though a big tire can look cool stuffed under the truck, the moment you enter a driveway at an angle they are probably going to rub on the body.
- And, even with a bunch of lift, if you increase your tire size, there is still a chance for body-contact under articulation if you do not increase your bump stop length.
- Wheel Spacers
- Are there rims that you want, but they donโt fit? Wheel spacers are not as awful as they say โ within reason!
- We typically never run, or recommend, anything more than a 1.25โ spacer. But, using a spacer of that size can be enough to:
- Get the offset and look your wanting
- Add a little extra turning angle, with large tires
- Utilize an adapter for bolt pattern changes
- Give enough space to run a slightly narrower center bore diameter
Update: Here is what I am thinking.

They came in today! I decided to order them through the Walmart app because I use Walmart plus and the prices were good and they put them on and warranty them for $18 tire. That includes roadside assistance. Walmart has some pretty good deals if youโre in the market. I used to use other Tire Discounters, but Wally world has been a winner for me lately.

Iโm gonna have the rims painted. My guys at the paint shop want me to bring in the tires on the rims? Theyโll do a little deflation and paint around them. Iโll take them by on Friday and have the tire switched out and then try to sell the set that was on there.
