I took my ’72 Scout for its first real visit to the mechanic. To start, I am having the boys at D & M Motors check it out. I have known these guys for years, and David met me to review the car and determine what we needed. We sat out in front of D & M for about 20 minutes, reviewing what I wanted done and what he thought should be done. It all sounded reasonable, and we are set to do the work on May 6th, 2024. See the punch list that we agreed upon below. I will be updating the pricing as it comes in with a breakdown so you can see what I spent. I don’t care what you think about what I paid, so save it. See #1 in my area of expertise.

I did order a part for the fuel system. David seems to think dropping the tank and replacing the fuel-sending unit is the route. That way, we can have a new sending unit to test against. You may have a difference of opinion. If so I would like to hear in the comments. Why?

UPDATE: I dropped the Scout off today to have the work done next week. He quoted me between $800 and $1000 to make the list above, plus the cost of dropping the tank, which is usually about $150. I will also be taking him the Wallace 4×4 steering rod and knuckles.

Update: May 14th, 2024 – I pulled the gas and oil gauges, and guess what! They were not plugged into the fuse box. In fact – it looks like they were all cut up to run the other “newly” installed Bosch gauges. So….before you buy a $90 Dollar Part and $150 for a tank drop… Remove the 10 screws and dash panel to check to connection first! Mistake #1 Cost me $240.
