I decided to search around and start adding some small “luxuries” to my Scout II. The first thing I came across was a tuffy gas piston to help assist the opening of the tuffy box. I am going to be honest. I didn’t think much about this being a problem but it is a pain in the ass to open. You have to really yank on it to get it going. I found the solution, but since I am cheap, there is no way I was paying $39.99 plus some BS shipping for a gas strut. I decided to give BaZos the business because his wife needs some more plastic surgery. That all being said – $12.70 plus $2.22 in hardware from Ace was what I had budgeted. It turned out, that was all I needed.

It was pretty simple. I repurposed the bottom left hole in the tuffy box and added the top ball bracket. I just added a lock-tite nut and bolt (6/32) for the top, and 3 nuts and bolts for the bottom ball bracket. It took about 30 minutes to complete, and as you can see. It works pretty well!.

I will say that I drilled 2 holes WAY TOO HIGH. Don’t do that. Put the bottom ball joint near where the seat belt strap connects. Works like a charm. I would use 3/4 inch bolts. The 1 inch bolts that I bought were a little too long for the bottom ball joint.

Easy peasy, and it works like a charm. $15 Bucks and 30 minutes? Definitely worth it!
