This past weekend, I was able to get my Scout over to Crossville, TN, for the annual Harvesters in the Hollar, about 140 Miles round trip. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but I had only put 200 miles total on the new speedometer/odometer. My destination was up the hill a little, so my biggest concern was overheating. If you are just starting to drive a restoration, you will probably think the same thing. I didn’t think I would even be thinking about it, but a LOT of thoughts go through my head when I am driving my rebuilt rig. I have listed a few things below, but these are the things I think about less and less.

  1. Will I overheat?
  2. Will the brakes go out?
  3. Will the steering go out?
  4. Will the engine blow up?
  5. Will I run out of Oil? Transmission fluid?

Also, I think I need to adjust the temperature gauge in the dash and the fuel level indicator. Both seem to be off. For example, the EFI shows temps up to 195, while the Auto Meter reader shows the temp up to 235. The fans cut on based on the EFI, so I don’t worry too much. The fuel gauge is a little more concerning. It goes from Full to 1/2 very quickly. I am not sure if there is an adjustment, and once I have a free weekend, I will start to do some research.

I had a great day in the Hollar! I got to meet some of the Scout owners below and asked a bunch of questions! Here are some of the pics of the rigs. Scout II’s, Terras, Travelers, Travelalls. Loved seeing each one and hearing the stories!

I am looking forward to the next Harvesters in the Hollar. The next date has been selected, and I already have it on the calendar for 2026.
