Back at the mechanic…. I think there may be a vacuum leak or a fuel pressure regulation/fuel pump issue. I will have it back at State Line Auto in a few weeks to see if we can get it running as good as it looks.

Update:

…so the old man is back on the tow bed, hopefully get running like a top. The guys at State Line have it again. It started with an A/C installation, then we added the serpentine kit. I then had it sent back over for more wiring work and had it put back together, which happened pretty quickly. I asked if we could start with $500 of “diagnosis” which I thought would be fair. John asked for 10 and we settled on 8 hours. My fingers are crossed, and I hope to have a good report. I will update as soon as I can.

Update:

If I am honest…this may go in my mistakes log, and I didn’t see it coming. I received a call from my mechanic, and he said it isn’t running because it’s out of gas. …thank goodness he was joking. Turns out the fuel pump is “burned” up. It would work for a few minutes. It would get too hot and quit pumping. He is going to work on it to tomorrow, and I will update then. As for now. I will assume the pump is on order, and I will have to buy a new one…

Update:

I talked to John at State Line Auto today, and it took him about 12 hours, but they diagnosed the issue, which was a burned-up fuel pump, which they’ve now replaced. They also believe that the fuel pressure regulator, which would either have 5 pounds of fuel pressure or 190, came into play as well. Since the regulator is burned out, we’re gonna try to get money back from Holly on that and put one that costs three times as much in there… I’m a sucker for overpaying, just refer back to my homepage. The part should arrive tomorrow, and they’ll install it, perform diagnostics, and also fix the shifter cable for the automatic transmission. Probably gonna have to put a new one of those in there as well.

Update:

Day 484…..So they ordered the wrong fuel filter for the 100 PSI fuel pump. According to Holley, the fuel pressure required for the Sniper 2 is 60 PSI. Now, I had one mechanic tell me that he couldn’t get it running correctly at 60 PSI, only 40 PSI. If I am being honest, it hasn’t run great since I took the Edlebrock carburetor off the engine. We shall wait and see, but as of now, we are still stuck in limbo..

Update:

Day 499….The fuel pump is working! The new filter worked, and the Holley is doing its thing. We had to order another A/C compressor to replace the brand-new one installed just over 5 months ago. I made another mistake, and I will share a little hint that shouldn’t be rocket science. Buy the protection plan if it’s not too crazy expensive. Yes, it would have added 10% to the cost of the AC Compressor, but in this case, it would have been worth it! Especially if the warranty is 90 days or some bullshit like that. I hope to have it installed and ready to go for the last weekend in August.

Update:

Day 500: …on the rack. I am still waiting for the reinstallation of the new compressor. Positive note: it has been raining cats and dogs for the past few days. I mean thunderstorms and flooding. I checked the carpet and it is dry! I know what you are thinking, and I am thinking the same thing. I am not out of the woods just ye,t but if this is going to be my daily driver. I will need it to leak just a little. If possible, there would be no leaks at all. We shall see. If this thing is going to be my daily driver, I need to make sure it’s reliable. I need it to be negative on the drippity-droppity.

Update:

Day 512: John called me today, and the guy that works on my truck is back at work. He has been sick for a couple of weeks and is not in great health. I am glad he is back because my son and I are set to hit our first Harvesters in the Hollar.

ABOUT: We aim to make Harvesters in the Holler one of the largest IH family gatherings in the country. This event was created to bring all IH Harvester owners and enthusiasts together for a weekend of countryside trail riding and hanging out under the Tennessee stars with family and friends.

This annual gathering takes place at Oaklawn Farms, a beautiful venue that hosts events in the heart of Tennessee, where you will find some of the most scenic countryside Tennessee has to offer.

Oaklawn Farms also offers mild off-road trails for everyone to responsibly enjoy, hundreds of large oak trees to camp under, ponds to camp beside, fire pits, and a large barn for social gatherings.

Update:

Day 513: I met with my guys again, and it seems there is a blockage in the A/C system. He has replaced the compressor, dropped the fan box in the cab, and is now checking the dryer to determine the blockage. Of course, this is taking longer than expected, but they say I am still on budget….ish. So ready to get this bad boy going so I can take it out this weekend. Maybe.

Update:

Day 514: I talked to my guys again…. They have the A/C system working, but they had to blow apart the front…they removed the hood and front grill to access everything. I am afraid this thing is going to be a bear from now on. I hope to receive the call to come pick it up today. I want to go to Wally World and pick up a fire extinguisher in the hopes that I will never have to use it!

Update:

Day 515: I am going to start a new post because the A/C is fixed(they had to flush the evaporator), the engine is running well(engine idles well at 750 RPM and my serpentine belt system is slivering), but we have some challenges. I didn’t take a picture of the list, but here they are, and none were music to my ears.

  1. Won’t come out of first gear.
    • My guy said the transmission fluid was full, but I recall him mentioning it was low.
  2. The engine stops when you brake hard.
    • I have no idea, but I think it may be related to the torque converter.
  3. The front end is whining.
    • It may be a wheel bearing.
  4. The speedometer intermittently dropped out.
    • I’m not sure about that either, but I am not as concerned about the issue.
