Project Heavy Metal: Louder and Nastier than Ever!!
Now that all the sheet metal is in, I must take it to the sheet metal guy for advice. As you remember, I am gaining two inches or more with a new suspension and a one-inch body lift.
UPDATE: I took down the HD Surefit Wedge from the boys at Anything Scout. I forgot that it would be needed because both of the wedges are pretty much toast. The guys at the body shop are working on cutting out the metal floor pans, cab mounts, and rear cargo area—all new sheet metal for those locations. I have a quick video, but there is more to come.
Update:
Today, I took the wiring harness down to my body guy and snapped the pictures below. The welder is working on removing the floor pans and brushing up the cross-support members with some ANTI-RUST BLOCK.
The rest may look pretty bad, but I got all the sheet metal from EJClassics, and the only “Extra” expense was shipping. Since the metal is heavy, shipping is about 30% of the total cost. If you know all the sheet metal you need, I will order them all simultaneously. EJ has a flat shipping rate on heavy/bulky items, which means you can save on shipping smaller items by bundling them into the order.
I did order a couple of these to replace the inner gussets. My welder could have fabricated a piece, but not for the price I found @EJ. Again, order all the metal together if possible. Please don’t do what I did, which is overpay a little. I don’t think it will be death by a thousand cuts. Use my mistake and save a little $$.
UPDATES: Work started back 9/9/2024
The boys are back at it today. They replaced the driver’s side floorboard, installed tunnel patches, and installed gussets!

Updates: Sept 13th.
I talked to Toney today, and he is trying to have the Scout ready to get a lift kit and body bushing by the 20th of September. My plan is to move it up to my lift kit guy’s place the following Monday – weather permitting.
Update Sept 25th – the floor amd rust replacement is compete:
They also added a little extra support to make sure the anchor point for the roll bar is sturdy. Reed added 4 points and anchored them to the stronger spots without attaching to the frame. We wanted to have a body mount so the bushings would absorb some vibration. We shall see how “quiet” I can make it with sound dampening.
